EHSAAN TERA HOGA MUJH PAR

EHSAAN TERA HOGA MUJH PAR

We rarely give thought to the words in a song when the lyrics are superb. But in the days when there was no twitter or face book, in the 1960’s, one observant person commented in the then famous Urdu magazine “SHAMA” on the first line of this song. He observed, and I agreed, that the first line EHSAN TERA HOGA MUJH PAR  does not go well, grammar wise, with the rest of the song because of the word ‘TERA’ as then there should have been in the next line the words, DIL CHAAHTA HAI WOH KAHNE DE instead of DO.

He then went on to suggest that perhaps the word TERA could be replaced with BADA (big)  and the grammatical difficulty may be resolved.

EHSAAN TERA HOGA MUJH PAR

DIL CHAAHTA HAI WOH KAHNE DE

vs

EHSAAN BADA HOGA MUJH PAR

DIL CHAAHTA HAI WOH KAHNE DO.

Now forget all this academics and enjoy the song.

isi naghme mein ek aur jagh grammar ko toda gaya hai:
tum ne mujh ko hansna sikhaaya
rone kaho ge ro len ge ham

The first and second line could be like:
tum ne HAM ko hansna sikhaaya
gar jo kaho to rolen ge ham.

aap shayer hain ham se achha jante hain.
      shukria
      🙂

Sounds wrong now that you point it out! This used to be my all time favourite song growing up. Thanks for stirring fond memories.
