GHALIB IN THE HEREAFTER

26 Dec

This article is given entirely in Urdu. Its English translation in my opinion will fail to render the subtle meaning and the satire that is the main theme of this write up. It will be impossible to appreciate and enjoy even partially

the inherent tricky compositions and without knowing the style and traditions of Ghalib. So here it is in Urdu:

[it is now available in English also at https://shakilakhtar.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/ghalib-in-hereafter-ii/]

the first part is from Ibne Insha and one cannot fail to notice his characteritic hillarious humour. Later, the part about ,”mere baad” yaani after his death is my ‘kawish’ and the last sher is the one I learnt in ‘adabi mehfils’ I used to attend in Shhjahanpur in 1967 and today only I made it public. Thanks for your liking and for support janab. shukria and khus rahein.

Unka adaz bas unka hi hai. Allama Iqbal ke ek sher ka bhi unhoon ne tajzia kia hai.
Nayee tahzeb ke gande andon pr misra kaha tha apni biwi ko ,” Uth kar phenk do bahr gali mein” Kahte hain yeh us waqt ka hai jab yeh aam se ghar men rahte the aur kothi nahin banayi thi warna kahte utha kar phenk do bahar sarak par. Mazeed yeh k bahar ka lafz ghair zarori hai, gali to bahar hi hoti hai. Aur yeh ke yeh unki jawani ka sher hai jb woh kasrat karte the aur wazni cheezen utha utha kar phenkte the. isi liye uthana aur phenkna unki adat sania ban gayi. warna kahte gali mein phenk do………..aur bhi hai lekin bas yeh comment lamba ho raha hai ijazat…..

Correction: (i) “sahookaar unki aadhi tankhwah kha jata tha” mein ‘aadhi’ ke bajaye ‘tihaayi’ padheN.yeh is sher se sabit hai: “meri tankhwah mein tihayi ka—ho gaya hai shareek saahookaar”
(ii) in the first pargraph, after “mazeed yeh k” padheN [mera izafa].
