KOH-E-NOOR, KOHINUR

14 Dec

The diamond Kohinur is world famous and I have seen this stone in the Tower of London long time ago. It glitters and dazzles. Some short history of this gem is given here for those who are curious about it.

BABUR ARRIVED IN INDIA IN DEC. 1525, DEFEATED IBRAHIM LODI IN THE BATTLE OF PANIPAT.

Excerpts from a book “MUGHAL INDIA” by Abraham Eraly, pp 523, 524.

bhutto ko chahiye tha ke kohinoor England se aur Takhte Taoos Iran se le aate.Nadir Shah heera aur takht donon le gaya tha.
Indira Gandhi before she died was able to bring from Kabul aboard a C130 the grand Door of Somnath Mandir which was taken away by Mahmood Ghaznavi several centuries ago. Thank you very much for your comment Rafi bhai.

My wonderful respected dost Shakil sahab! A very brilliant post – one that definitely drew my attention as I am a lover of history, this subject has also weighed my mind a few times – thus I am delighted to have read it here! Kohinoor never belonged to England (then, again, we all know the Queen’s greed! Tsk Tsk!).
Loved your comment on my recent post – shall respond to you on that soon. Wish to (one day) meet you Shakil sahab — actually, it would be great if Rafi Mian, youa nd myself met ! I can see many interesting conversations ignite amongst as three — from Ghalib to Africa – we can go for hours talking! Kaun jaane kab?! Kyon na umeed rahe….
Buhut khoob article! Keep it up.
    Aadaab huzoor.

      Raah meiN ham mileN kahaN
      Bazm meiN woh bulaaye kyuN

I’m thrilled at the thought. tum donoN qareeb bhi ho ge, mukhatib bhi ho ge.tum ko dekheN ge bhi aur baat bhi kareN ge.
wah kya andaz hai. I hereby offer my humble abode (in which exactly two rooms are always vacant after the girls found their own). I will write to Rafi Mian also. Think about it. New Zealand may not be more but is at least as much beautiful as Canada. Please do think.
As for my comments on your speech, I was trembling with fear that you might take offence, but thank God you proved to be so gracious and great. Also I want to make clear that “African” who slept on the stairs was only a symbol for all of us third world, me included, and I oppologise to Africa for the laps.

You two are very generous and great people!
It would be really a great idea…but…
ہم خاک نشیں، خاک سے اٹھ کر کہاں جائیں
Ye Shaheen bhi ‘nayi nayi’ laikar aati hain 😛
Aor maira tu ye aalam hay k : “nikaltay hain ghar say, tu sochaingay so baar”
Shakil sahib, New zealand will be a nice place to meet some real and nice people but it is far from my reach 🙂
Bus, Dua hay k aap k Dolat-Kaday ki ziyarat hojaaye !

        Adab arz hay Shakil sahab,

Mamnoon hoon for such a superb invitation. And, I have never been to New Zealand – though am sure far far better looking than Canada!
Thus, it is apt that I quote Iqbal as my reply to you:

“Nahin tera nash-e-mann kasr-e-sultani kay gumband per
Tu Shaheen hai basera ker paharon ki chatanon per.”

You see, my full name resonates in this verse: shaheen sultan ! Iqbal was alluding to me, jee haan — aap aur rafi ne dekh liye kya jaduu hay Shaheen ka! hahahha.

Kyon umeed na kare to meet — all of us shall meet ek din achaanak!
Buhut taazeem ke saath, adaab ji.

    Aur, pyare dost Rafi Mian,

Sahi likha that Shaheen comes up with new ideas all the time. Aur, Ghalib ne haqeeqat likha tha:

“hamko ma’aloom hai jannat ki haqeeqat lekin
dil ke KHush rakhne ko, ‘GHalib’ yeh KHayaal achcha hai.”

I am not giving up hope to meet the two of you in life. Agar New Zealand is too far Rafi, Pakistan tou sahi — shayad, aisa bhi waqt aye that Shakil sahab and I both are in Pakistan at the same time. Kyun na ho? We shall talk about such plans via email – the three of us have each other’s email.
Aur, aap dono are totally invited to Toronto – my abode is open for my dear doston.
    Dil-shaad rahein Mian

Nahi na, fakhr nahi hai naam peh 🙂

here is a shadow of me in one of Ghalib’s verse:

“rone se aur ishq me.n bebaak ho gae
dhoe gae ham aise ki bas paak ho gae

ye masaail-e-tasavvuf, ye teraa bayaan ‘Ghalib’
tujhe ham walii samajhate, jo na baadaa_Khvaar hota”.

      Aik aur…

puuchhe hai kyaa vajuud-o-adam ahl-e-shauq kaa
aap apanii aag se Khas-o-Khaashaak ho gae.

And, yes, we shall meet, ek din ! Rafi, you have no choice but to bring your poetry book when Shakil sahab and I meet you in Khi.
      Adaab

Leh Mian ji ! You are the poet. Here is how it goes:

Rafi: “Main ronaq e mehfil hoon”

Shaheen & Shakil : “Main shehar mein veerana”

Thus-far, we have established our roles – rafi recites poetry and the two S’s – the audience! Ab jao and meditate as much as you wish, phir kabhi….
    🙂
